So, you’ve been eyeing that custom hair, or that custom shirt, and you said to yourself, “Dang, that hair is nice! But, I have noooo idea how to install it?!” Then you give up and cry yourself to sleep.
How to Install Sims 3 Custom Content. Custom content, often simply referred to as CC, is a way of styling up your Sims 3 game to look more modern and realistic. While there's a wide variety of content out there, most of it is fairly simple.
Has that happened to you? I know I can say that it happened to me, but then I learned how to install custom content, and now my game is great, and my sheets are tear free!
Do NOT:
There is one thing about TS3 CC, that makes it special. Where its placed. Remember with TS2, how your CC went here?
• Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Downloads
• Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Downloads
Well, that’s not where you go to place your Sims 3 downloads. Sure, you can easily mozy on down to:
• Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Downloads
Yes you can, that folder DOES exist, but, the only items that get in there, are .sims3packs.
• Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Downloads
Yes you can, that folder DOES exist, but, the only items that get in there, are .sims3packs.
So, let’s address this, where do you not go? Your Documents folder. One more time… stay away from the Documents folder, or I will hunt down and eat your offspring.
Getting Started:
There are a few things that you need before you can start downloading custom content. The first, are two folders. Navigate to your Sims 3 Root folder, to get here, follow this path:
• C:/Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3
• C:/Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3
Once you are there, right click, and create a new folder called Mods. Once you do that, open up your Mods folder, right click, and create a new folder called Packages.
Getting CC to work for Macs isn’t as easy, but its still fairly do able. You still need to get to your root folder, but its harder for Mac’ers to find. This is what you need to do. Go to your Sims 3 icon, this can be found in your Applications folder. If you placed it somewhere else, go look for it. Then, right click *or control+click* on the app, and select Show Package Content. Now, you’re going to want to follow this path:
• Contents/ Resources/transgaming/c_drive/Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3
• Contents/ Resources/transgaming/c_drive/Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3

Now, before you start placing your package files into your folders, there’s something that you will need to place BEFORE you can even think about having CC in your game. What is that you ask? Its the resource.cfg file. This is the file that allows your game to recognize and accept your custom content files, and without it, CC won’t work.
Click here, to download it, and it is the same for PC and Macs. *You must be logged into MTS to get this file. Log in, or register*

Now that you have your resource.cfg file, you are going to need to place it in the correct place.
You are going to need to go back to your Sims 3 Root folder:
• C:/Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3
• C:/Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3
Once you are there, just simply drag and drop your resource.cfg file into that folder.

Downloading CC:
To download custom content, all you really need to do, is just click on the link that says download. Most sites will require for you to register, and that’s easier than eating cookies, so just do that if you need to. If you can, set it so that your .zips or .rars download directly onto your Desktop. Harry potter ebooks free download pdf. This makes it easier for you to find your files, and it keeps your files all in one place.
There are 4 different files that you will come across when downloading custom content:
• .zips
• .rars
• .sims3pack
• .package
• .zips
• .rars
• .sims3pack
• .package
Two of them basically install themselves, and two of them, you’re going to have to install yourself.
Extracting & Installing CC:
Now, when you download a .zip, or a .rar file, you are going to need to download a program that allows your computer to open these files, especially if you are on a PC.
If you are on a PC, then your computer does not come with any sort of application that opens and extracts .zips and .rars. If you want to have CC, then you must download WinRAR. *when you click that link, don’t be scared by all the links. Just click on the one that says English, or the language that you speak/read best* WinRAR will open both .zips and .rars.
Now that you have your program, simply open up your .rars or .zips into WinRAR, and let it do the rest! Once it is done, you will have your .package files! Take your .package files, and place them in your Packages folder:
• C:/Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Mods/Packages
• C:/Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Mods/Packages
If you are on a Mac, then you are pretty much set to go! All Macs come with Stuffit! so these will open all .zips, and most .rars. Most, did I just say… most? That’s right, I said most. I had problems with Stuffit, and .rars so I went and got WinRAR for Mac. It will open all of your .rars with ease.
Free pc moba games. Once you think you’re set, to extract your files, simply double click on their icons, and Stuffit, or WinRAR will do the rest. Take your .package files, and place them in your Packages folder:
• Contents/ Resources/transgaming/c_drive/Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Mods/Packages
• Contents/ Resources/transgaming/c_drive/Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Mods/Packages
Remember! To get to this folder, you need to right click on your TheSims3.app and select Show Package Contents.
Now, if you downloaded a .sims3pack, or a .package, you can simply skip all those steps, and directly place any .package file into your Packages folder. If you get a .sims3pack, just double click it, and it will automatically install into your game, so you don’t have to worry about not installing it incorrectly.

When you install your custom content, wether is a sim, house, or hair, you are going to need to know where these things will show up.
If you downloaded a hair, pattern, or other CAST/CAS item…
• Your item will show up in their correct category, like in the pants, or hair section of CAS.
• Your item will show up in their correct category, like in the pants, or hair section of CAS.
If you downloaded a sim…
• Your item will show up in CAS, and you must click the icon in the bottom left corner, that looks like 6 shadows of sims.

If you downloaded a home…
• Your item will show up in the lots bin.

Mac users, for Sims 3 sites? Yes, that is right. Some websites don’t work with Safari, so its best if anyone on a Mac uses FireFox.
I hope that this tutorial helps anyone out there that was having CC issues!

If you have the second file type, you can learn how to remove
The launcher can only display around 500 items at a time. So if you have more, they drop off the list. Use the 'Sims' tab. This will reload 500 items without showing patterns, objects, lots and uncategorized content.
If they STILL aren't showing, the only known option is to delete accessories, make-up and shoes you don't use. If you've downloaded this much content from the exchange there's bound to be items you can ditch.
Bad CC still in game after being deleted
There's a folder called 'SavedSims' if any of these sims happen to be wearing the bad cc you've removed, it still shows in the game.
Take the sims out of the folder, but don't delete them just in case something you like disappears with them. (files that delete with sims) Sit them on the desktop so they're easy to find. Run the game and if this has fixed the bad cc but taken things you like, you can just pop them back in the folder, take off the things you like and save to a clean sim, then go ahead and delete them.
You MUST make sure the 0x code associated to the bad cc you have has been deleted BEFORE you save a new sim. They can stick to the new sims you create, without being worn. Remember these files 'hide' on sims, this is how you got them. Once the 0x code has gone, that file can no longer be saved. Even if you tried to save it, it simply won't be there.
